Eid ul Milad is a day dedicated to Prophet Mohammad and his teachings. It is a day both to celebrate and mourn, since it is the birthday as well as the death anniversary of the Prophet.

According to a popular belief, the Holy Prophet was born on the 12th day of Rabi ul Awwal in 570 CE in Mecca. Rabi ul Awwal is the third month of the Islamic calendar.  Naats and hymns are sung in praise of the Prophet. Processions are taken out. People give alms and charity.
